Woman dies in single-vehicle crash

On Behalf of | Feb 17, 2015 | Car Accidents

A woman is dead after an early morning single-vehicle crash in Arizona. The driver of the vehicle she was riding in has been taken into custody and is facing charges of murder.

The driver, 23, allegedly left the scene of the accident. Police apprehended him close by where he was hiding in a trucking company lot. After treatment at the hospital for a shoulder injury, he was taken to a local jail and charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident, second-degree murder and aggravated DUI. According to authorities, his BAC level was .147 percent. This reading is over the legal limit of .08 percent.

The crash occurred at about 2:30 a.m. in the vicinity of Buckeye Road and 59th Street. According to a representative of the sheriff’s office in Maricopa County, the vehicle, described as a Dodge Charger, was speeding while heading south on 59th. Allegedly, the vehicle veered off the road and hit an embankment, sending the car into the air. Deputies said the car flipped over multiple times before landing.

According to police reports, three passengers were in the vehicle when the car accident happened. Two individuals in the backseat suffered minor injuries. The third passenger, a 47-year-old woman, had a severe head injury and was transported to the hospital where she was declared dead.

A car accident involving drinking and driving may result in serious injuries and death, as in this case. This negligence, resulting in the death of a passenger or another motorist, may leave the decedent’s family facing funeral and burial costs and deprive them of the financial contribution that person may have made to household expenses.

The family may wish to speak to an attorney. The attorney, after reviewing the accident data, may help by filing a wrongful death suit.
