Pedestrian killed on Phoenix street

A woman crossing a street in Phoenix was struck and killed by a car on the night of Oct. 23, authorities stated. The driver involved in the 8 p.m. accident allegedly fled from the scene of the crash, on McDowell Road near 51st Avenue. Phoenix police eventually located and detained the driver, reportedly.

According to authorities, the woman was attempting to cross the road outside of the crosswalk when a vehicle stopped to let her pass. That is when a second vehicle purportedly swerved around the first vehicle and hit the woman. Emergency personnel transported the woman to a Phoenix hospital, where her accident-related injuries proved to be fatal.

The driver who hit the woman purportedly pulled into a parking lot to check the damage. Subsequently, the driver fled the area and attempted to hide in a nearby home, authorities stated. Police claim they located the hit-and-run driver and took him into custody on charges of leaving the scene of a fatal traffic accident.

Oftentimes, the investigations that accompany a pedestrian accident reveal that the incident was not a faultless event but resulted from the recklessness or negligence of one of the involved parties. In many cases, that is the driver of the vehicle that hit the pedestrian. In the event that a pedestrian dies as a result of another party’s negligent driving, the at-fault driver may be held accountable for the deadly event not just in criminal court but also through civil action.

For, the families of deceased pedestrian accident victims may sue the at-fault driver to help cover end-of-life expenses, such as estate administration costs, as well as various non-economic losses. Bereaved families who wish to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit typically start the process by retaining a lawyer.
