Several injured in two-vehicle wreck

On Behalf of | Jul 8, 2014 | Car Accidents

Five people were injured by an accident that happened in Arizona on July 1 according to a local news source. The collision occurred near the intersection of Sunrise Drive and 51st Avenue in Laveen Village at approximately 8:30 a.m. The incident happened when driver an armored truck headed south on 51st Avenue crossed over the centerline and collided with an oncoming pickup truck.

According to a spokesman with Phoenix police, the armored truck began tipping over before the impact and ended up on top of the hood the pickup truck after the collision. Emergency crews used extrication equipment to remove three victims from the vehicles, two of whom were inside of the armored truck. Police remained on-scene guarding the money inside the armored truck until another vehicle arrived to remove the funds.

A father, his two teenagers and their dog were extricated from the pickup. They were all hospitalized, with the two teenagers suffering injuries that were not life-threatening. The father was in ‘extremely critical condition” after the accident according to the news source.

The people injured in this accident may consider filing a personal injury suit against the driver of the armored truck. If the police report and witness accounts point toward driver negligence as the cause of the crash, the armored truck’s passenger and the occupants of the pickup truck would have stronger chances of being awarded restitution through civil litigation.

Damages from civil suits usually account for vehicle repair costs, medical expenses, loss of income and other financial harm caused by the wreck. In order to justify compensation for a plaintiff in personal injury suit, an attorney must prove that the accident was caused by the defendant’s negligence. In this particular incident, legal counsel for the victims would likely focus on establishing driver error as the reason the armored truck crossed into oncoming traffic.
