The dangers of heat stroke

Living in Arizona, we know how hot it can get in the summer. However, heat can be more than just uncomfortable. It can be deadly.

Heat stroke can happen to anyone. It is more common in the elderly and people with health issues, but anyone is susceptible to the dangers of heat. In some cases, another party may be liable if your loved one passes away from heat stroke.

Signs of heat stroke

The Arizona Department of Health Services offers a guide to heat stroke that is a good overview of the symptoms and ways to prevent heat-related illnesses. While the best thing to do is to avoid extreme temperatures, there are heat stroke warning signs, including:

  • Thirst
  • Cramps
  • Exhaustion
  • Hot, dry skin

These are just a few signs and symptoms to look for. For those who are tasked with caring for others, such as daycare providers, nursing home workers or coaches of sports teams, it is especially important to know about the warning signs.

Could someone else be liable for my loved ones heat stroke

There are situations where you may have a wrongful death case if your family member falls victim to heatstroke. As we mentioned, someone tasked with taking care of an individual could be held responsible for a heatstroke death for someone in their care.

Past examples include athletes who die during a game or practice because the coach was not looking out for their well being. Another example is if someone caring for a child leaves the child locked in a hot car.

Heatstroke is tragic and unexpected. While it is often the result of an accident, there are situations where another party may be liable.
