In a prior post, we highlighted the increased risk of accidents in shopping mall parking lots during the holiday season due to the increased volume of traffic as people shop for presents for their friends and loved ones.
Indeed, we all want to avoid fender-benders, and we all want to get in and out of the shopping center expeditiously. As such, this post will focus on prudent maneuvers and tips that can help drivers avoid car accidents in parking lots.
Be perceptive of your speed- It's easy to say that you should slow down while in a parking lot, but you may be tempted to try to quickly nab a prime parking spot. Just keep in mind that a great parking spot is not worth wrecking your car over. After all, the cost of fixing your car (and someone else's) is much more than a regular parking space.
Use your technology - It is no secret that more vehicles are equipped with backup cameras that enable a driver to see behind them when going in reverse. At the same time, backup cameras can also be used to navigate a parking spot. After all, people hate other drivers who take up more than one space because they pull too far forward or park over the lines on the side.
Patience is the key - As we mentioned earlier, good parking spots can be hard to come by and jockeying for a space can lead to rash fender benders. As such, it pays to be patient and wait for a spot to open up. Remember, a spot opens up on average every nine minutes even during the busiest times a shopping center is open.
