How to deal with mall parking lot accidents

We hope our readers had a great Thanksgiving with family and loved ones. Now that the turkey, stuffing and cranberry have been eaten, the focus is now on Black Friday; the annual day of shopping and consumption designed to keep (or get) retailers into the black. Indeed, retailers want to get people into stores, and shoppers are more than happy to oblige. With that, it is expected mall parking lots will be crowded from now until the New Year. So accidents in parking lots are to be expected.

Since an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, these tips may help in case you are involved in an accident.

Trade insurance information – If there is one thing that should be done after an accident, trading insurance information is arguably the most important. After all, initiating a claim against the driver’s insurance provider is essential to getting your vehicle repaired. Also, if medical attention was needed, initiating a claim is key.

Use an app – Naturally, you should not use your phones while looking for a parking space, but after an accident, a phone could be helpful since most insurers have smartphone applications that could allow you to send pictures of the crash directly from the scene.

Be careful about apologies – It is okay to feel bad (or compassion) after an accident, but saying sorry about it may be perceived as an admission of guilt. You don’t want to sabotage your case before you initiate a claim.

The preceding is not legal advice. If you have questions about what to do after an accident, contact an experienced personal injury attorney
