Wrong way accident the fourth in Arizona this month

The Memorial Day weekend holiday was not without serious auto accidents. According to an azdailysun.com report, three people were injured after a driver going the wrong way crashed into another vehicle.  Head-on collisions are very dangerous and are known for leading to fatalities.

Fortunately, no one was killed in this crash. However, the people involved in the crash suffered various injuries. According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, two men in a Jeep Cherokee drove for more than three miles in the northbound lanes of Interstate 17 before hitting another vehicle, described by authorities as a pickup truck, head-on.

The crash marked the fourth wrong-way accident in the month of May. In fact, seven fatal accidents occurred in just over a week this month. The other accidents included a driver who was drunk and high on opiates when she drove the wrong way on Loop 202 in Gilbert before colliding with another vehicle; three tourists from Indonesia who lost their lives after being struck by a wrong way driver on I-17 north of Phoenix, and an off duty Mesa police officer.

The crashes are tragic reminders of the need for Arizona drivers to use reasonable care while driving. If a driver fails to do so, and an accident occurs as a result, the offending driver could be held liable for the injuries and property damage that ensues.

Unfortunately, the summer months see more people on the road, as many people plan vacations and road excursions. Nevertheless, when people are conscientious about driving safely, the chances for an accident to occur may be reduced.
