The Tucson Police Department announced that they located and detained an alleged hit-and-run driver involved with a Sept. 25 bicycle accident that killed a 58-year-old man. Police charged the accused driver, a 23-year-old woman, with multiple felony charges in connection with the incident that transpired near the intersection of Jacinto Street and Oracle Road.
A Sept. 12 accident in Tempe killed a pedestrian and left a man facing felony charges, authorities stated. Police reportedly suspect that a 29-year-old man was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the pedestrian accident.
An Arizona man believed to have caused an accident that resulted in one death and another injury was accused of being under the influence at the time of the crash on Aug 21. According to a report, the incident took place near the intersection of 51st Avenue and Estrella Drive in Laveen.
On Oct. 6, a 28-year-old man from Phoenix, Arizona, was driving the wrong way on State Route 51. His vehicle struck an SUV head-on. The crash resulted in the death of a 55-year-old New York woman who was a passenger in the car and serious injuries to the driver who was hospitalized for days after the accident. The Phoenix man also suffered injuries, but he recovered and was arrested after his release from the hospital.
A 28-year-old man is facing a felony charge of leaving the scene of a fatal accident after a July 11 incident in Maricopa County, authorities stated. The accident reportedly occurred near Mesa at approximately 4:45 p.m. and claimed the life of a bicyclist.
With a one-year deadline looming, survivors of 12 members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots who died on June 30, 2013, filed a wrongful death suit. The incident that led to the deaths of 19 individuals sparked due to a lightning strike, resulting in a small fire near Yarnell on June 28 of that year. The suit alleges that early efforts to manage the incident failed, resulting in the spread of the fire. The survivors further allege that the safety of those fighting the fire took less priority than the protection of structures and pastures. The Hotshots were reportedly left in a downwind position as the wind-driven fire progressed rapidly.
An accident involving two pickup trucks and a sedan has taken the life of four people and injured two others, authorities reported. The accident occurred around 10:30 p.m. June 19 on U.S. 70 between Safford and Globe.
Police detained a woman who was accused of driving a Toyota and running into the back of another vehicle, killing its two occupants. Authorities said the 35-year-old woman was driving a Toyota SUV when she hit the back of a Chevrolet sedan at the intersection of Recker Road and Brown Road in Mesa around 5:15 a.m. on June 9.
The California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department released a statement in March indicating that their findings in the accident that killed actor Paul Walker and race car driver Roger Rodas was caused by excessive speed. However, there were those who believed that there was another cause to the accident. After all, the Porsche Carrera GT that the two were riding in was reportedly known as a difficult car to handle. Because of this, it is not surprising that Porsche is facing a lawsuit as a result of the crash.
A landscaper in Phoenix was killed after he was struck by a pickup truck. The accident occurred the morning of March 26, when two teens were engaged in a street race. According to media accounts, the landscaper could not hear the cars coming down the street over the roar of his lawnmower. The cars were racing down the street towards a stop sign close to where the landscaper was working.
