Why are more doctors failing to warn about environmental risks?

According to the Centers for Disease Control, exposure to toxic substances such as solvents and heavy metals can be harmful to a pregnant mother and her child because they can cause birth defects, developmental complications and even miscarriages. But according to a recent survey, less than 20 percent of obstetricians said they told their pregnant patients about these environmental dangers.

Driver charged following Arizona 2-fatality crash

Police detained a woman who was accused of driving a Toyota and running into the back of another vehicle, killing its two occupants. Authorities said the 35-year-old woman was driving a Toyota SUV when she hit the back of a Chevrolet sedan at the intersection of Recker Road and Brown Road in Mesa around 5:15 a.m. on June 9.

About 10 percent of doctors are alcoholics, drug addicts

According to government studies, about one out of 10 doctors is an alcoholic or drug addict, and Arizona-based doctors are likely no exception. One investigative correspondent brought this issue to light after finding several cases of doctors getting caught abusing alcohol and drugs. He reported that some of these doctors were drunk or stoned when they performed surgeries on patients, leaving the patients injured or even dead.

Girl, 8, reportedly ejected from car during I-10 crash

A two-car accident on Interstate 10 in Phoenix left five people injured last night. At the outset, this may seem like a “routine” accident until you consider that an eight-year-old girl was allegedly ejected from the vehicle during the crash. Although she was reportedly thrown from the vehicle, she apparently did not suffer the injuries that commonly kill people who are ejected from cars that have been in accidents.

Misdiagnosis leads to surprise of a lifetime for one woman

For most women, if they miss their period they take a pregnancy test. If this turns up negative and they are still experiencing strange symptoms, they might go to the doctor for blood tests. Along with the possibility of an ultra sound, these tests will often confirm whether a woman is pregnant or not. It’s a simple diagnosis, right?

New instance of 'distracted doctoring' ends in license suspension

Unless you’re driving, most people never consider whether their text messaging habits will result in serious or fatal injury to someone else. But when that texting is being performed by a doctor during surgery on a patient, that sentiment can change in a heartbeat. Suddenly, that behavior has compromised patient safety, which can eventually lead to claims of medical negligence and even litigation.

How to insure a driver-less car

Would you get into a car that has no steering wheel, accelerator or brakes? Tech giant Google hopes that you will in the future. In fact, it appears that they are banking on the prospect of you not needing a car that has a driver or the traditional controls that a car would need in order to safely navigate around a city.

Survive Our Health Care System

The Journal on Patient Safety recently confirmed that over 440,000 people die every year because of preventable medical errors. Every year, preventable medical errors needlessly kill the equivalent of the population of Atlanta, Georgia.  Put another way, that's like taking Boise, Idaho and Madison, Wisconsin and erasing them from the map.

Summer is a dangerous time for teen drivers

For teens, the last day of school is like Christmas in June. Think about it…no school, longer days, and no homework; all the things a teenage boy or girl dreams about during the school year. For many teens, this summer will be the first with their driver’s license. This also adds a new dimension of excitement and experimentation that will undoubtedly make parents nervous.

Why accident investigations are important

A three-car accident in Goodyear left ten people injured. The crash occurred late in the hours of Wednesday evening at the intersection of Estrella and Yuma roads. According to witnesses, a car crossing Estrella Road was struck by a truck travelling on Yuma road. It is alleged that the truck failed to stop at a red light. One the vehicles in the initial crash then struck another vehicle that was approaching the intersection.

Victim's win in court could be short lived if hospital appeals

Winning a medical malpractice case often brings plaintiffs more relief than most people realize. Not only is it a relief to see a hospital and its staff held accountable for a medical mistake that has been made, but winning the case means that litigation is over and the plaintiff can finally move on with their life.
